A virtual selection of paintings by Professor Akmal Nurdinov, President of the Academy of Arts of the Republic of Uzbekistan and one of the country’s leading contemporary painters, is being presented on the website of the Academy of Arts of Iran.

According to the Public Relations Office of the Academy of Arts, more than 27 works by this artist, created in his distinctive style and personal vision, are on display for interested viewers.

This exhibition aims to strengthen cultural and artistic diplomacy, introduce contemporary art of Uzbekistan, consolidate scientific, research, and artistic cooperation between the two countries, and expand cultural relations with the nations of Central Asia.

By showcasing the works of one of Uzbekistan’s prominent contemporary artists, the exhibition provides a basis for mutual understanding of artistic capacities, exchange of experience, and the creation of links between artists and researchers of the two countries. The program’s outlook is to broaden sustainable cooperation, promote the mutual introduction of Iranian and Uzbek artists, and create a space for presenting Iranian art in Central Asian countries and, conversely, the art of this region in Iran—a strategy that contributes to deepening cultural relations and enhancing the role of art in regional interactions.

Akmal Nurdinov Khubiyanovich, President of the Academy of Arts of the Republic of Uzbekistan, is regarded as one of the leading contemporary painters of his country. He graduated from the Pavel Benkov Republican Art School in 1978 and from the Ostrovsky State Institute of Theatre and Art in Tashkent in 1984, and from 1985 to 1989 he studied at the Creative Workshop of the Academy of Arts of the Soviet Union in Tashkent.

Regarding his artistic approach, he states: “Art emerges between the visible and the hidden; between the material reality of the human body and its inner, spiritual experience. What occupies me more than representing the external world is revealing states that go beyond form and appearance: silence, longing, love, solitude, memory, and the human desire for the absolute.”

He notes that his works are in dialogue with the philosophical and cultural heritage of the East, especially with the Sufi understanding of love, and that they serve as a path toward self-knowledge.

Among his numerous group and solo exhibitions, one can mention his participation in the Moscow International Art Exhibition (1987); exhibitions of the Academy of Arts of the Soviet Union in Tashkent and Leningrad (1988); the international exhibition in Skopje, former Yugoslavia (1989); the exhibition of Uzbek artists at Davidson Gallery in Seattle, USA (1990); the international “Habitat II” exhibition in Istanbul (1996); the exhibition of Uzbek artists at the World Bank in Washington (2000); the Hangzhou International Art Exhibition in China (2006); and the international exhibition “Language of Art of Turkic Peoples” in Istanbul (2022). He has also held numerous solo exhibitions in cities such as Tashkent, Rabat, The Hague, Delhi, and Munich, including his shows at the Central Exhibition Hall in Tashkent and the Gallery of the Academy of Arts of Uzbekistan (2019 and 2024).

Professor Nurdinov became a member of the Creative Artists’ Union in 1990 and a full member in 1997. He is also a member of the Academy of Arts of Uzbekistan. His distinctions include the honorary title “People’s Artist of Uzbekistan” (2005), the State Prize of Uzbekistan (2011), honorary membership of the Russian Academy of Arts (2013), the Uzbek state medal “For Selfless Service” (2019), an honorary doctorate in Fine Arts from Keimyung University in South Korea (2019), an honorary diploma from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan (2020), the title of Honorary Professor of the Azerbaijan State Academy of Arts (2021), and the Japanese order “The Rising Sun” (2024).

His works are preserved in prestigious collections such as the State Museum of Arts of Uzbekistan, the Central Exhibition Hall of the Academy of Arts of Uzbekistan, the Samarkand State Museum of History and Architecture, Davidson Gallery in Seattle, several art galleries in India, and the collections of Credit Suisse Bank.
