«In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful»
Indeed, to God we belong and to Him we return.
With profound sorrow and deep grief, the news of the passing of Professor Mahmoud Farshchian, the distinguished master of Persian miniature painting and an enduring figure in Iranian art, has saddened the hearts of all who cherish culture and art.
Professor Farshchian, with a celestial brush and a gaze filled with Islamic mysticism, transcended traditional boundaries of Persian miniature art and carried it into new horizons. His immortal works—such as "The Evening of Ashura" and "The Guarantor of the Gazelle"—are manifestations of Iranian aesthetics and expressions of the spirit of faith, love, and humanity. He was an artist who, through color and line, spoke the language of nature and innate disposition, leaving behind an invaluable legacy for the history of Iranian-Islamic art.
The Academy of Arts of the Islamic Republic of Iran extends its condolences to the honorable Farshchian family, the artistic community of the nation, and the master’s students and admirers, and prays to Almighty God for His boundless mercy upon the soul of this precious gem, and for patience and reward upon his bereaved loved ones.
May his soul be at peace, and may his memory be eternal.
Majid Shah-Hosseini
